Narrative

Some works are a combination of things such as figures and landscapes but mainly tell a story.

The Road to Emmaus

The Road to Emmaus

The Road to Emmaus is the Gospels account of two disciples leaving Jerusalem on the third day after the crucifixion of Jesus. A stranger meets them along the way and they later discover it is the risen Savior.  Over centuries, most artists have rendered both disciples as men. I believe it was the disciple Clepoas and his wife Mary. Perhaps bias has diminished her role and that of other great women of the early church. For this reason I have put Mary in a position of promenece in this painting.
